Chemicals — REACH and restricted substances
Leather in prolonged skin contact is regulated under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH), Annex XVII. The two entries that matter for our goods are:
- Chromium VI (entry 47). Leather articles coming into contact with the skin must not contain chromium VI at 3 mg/kg or above of the total dry weight of the leather. Our tanneries certify compliance and we hold their declarations.
- Azo dyes (entry 43). Dyes that can release any of the listed carcinogenic aromatic amines above 30 mg/kg are prohibited. Our dyehouses certify compliance.
We also require declarations on nickel release from metal components in prolonged skin contact (entry 27), which is relevant to belt buckles. Our buckles are solid brass, brushed stainless steel or blackened steel.
Animal origin
- All leather sold here is bovine hide — a by-product of the food industry, not an animal raised for its skin.
- We do not sell leather from any species listed in the Appendices to CITES or in the Annexes to Regulation (EC) No 338/97. No python, crocodile, alligator, lizard, ostrich, stingray or shark.
- We do not sell fur, and we do not sell leather of dog or cat origin.
- Nothing we ship requires a CITES permit, and no article should be delayed at customs on species grounds.
Allergy information
Tanning agents, dyes, finishes and metal components can cause contact allergy in a small proportion of people. This is true of all leather goods, including ours, and we will not claim otherwise.
- We make no claim that our articles are hypoallergenic, allergy- free or suitable for sensitive skin.
- If you know you react to chromium, choose the vegetable-tanned articles — the tanning method is stated on every article page and is a sortable column in the ledger.
- If you develop redness, itching or a rash where an article touches your skin, stop using it and speak to a doctor. Contact us; we will take it back.
Leather care balm — safety
Our care balm is beeswax, lanolin and a neutral oil base. It contains no solvents, no pigments and no silicone. It is a leather care preparation, not a cosmetic and not a medicinal product.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets. Not for consumption.
- Avoid contact with eyes. If it happens, rinse with plenty of water.
- Lanolin is derived from sheep’s wool and is a recognised contact allergen for a small number of people. Stop using it if irritation occurs.
- Test on a small hidden area first and wait an hour. Balm darkens leather — sometimes noticeably, and permanently.
- Store the tin closed, cool and out of direct sunlight. Dispose of an empty tin with metal recycling.
- Cloths carrying oil residues can, in quantity, self-heat. Let a used cloth dry flat and in the open rather than balling it up in a closed bin.
What our shielding articles do, and do not do
Two articles include a shielding element: the RFID-Shielded Bifold, with an aluminium composite interlayer, and the RFID Card Case, with an aluminium body.
Tested condition. With the card fully seated in the shielded compartment and the case closed, an ISO/IEC 14443 Type A reference card did not respond to a 13.56 MHz reader at distances of 0 to 40 mm.
What that does not mean. The shield covers the card bank only, not other pockets. It is not tested against 125 kHz low-frequency credentials. It does nothing once the case is open or the card is out. It has no bearing on online card fraud, skimming at a physical terminal, or anyone simply taking the wallet.
We do not claim these articles prevent card fraud, and we do not describe them as offering 100% protection, because no such claim would be true.
Not toys, and not protective equipment
- These are adult accessories, not toys. Small parts such as press studs, rivets and split rings can detach with abuse and present a choking hazard. Keep away from children under three.
- The brass carabiner on the key holder is hardware for keys. It is not climbing equipment and must never be used for load-bearing or safety purposes.
- A phone sleeve gives scratch protection only. It is not shockproof, not waterproof and not drop protection.
- A soft glasses case will not protect glasses from being crushed.
Reporting a safety concern
If you believe an article we sold you presents a safety risk, tell us at support@hgllederwaren.shop or +49 1602061882. Say what happened and quote the article reference. We investigate every report, respond directly to you, and where a risk is confirmed we act on it and notify the competent market surveillance authority through the Safety Business Gateway as Article 20 GPSR requires.
You may also report a dangerous product directly to your national market surveillance authority, or through the European Commission’s Safety Gate portal.
