Accessibility statement
This shop is covered by the European Accessibility Act, transposed in Germany as the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG), which has applied to consumer e-commerce since 28 June 2025.

Conformance status
We build to WCAG 2.1 level AA, the standard referenced by EN 301 549 and by the BFSG. We consider this site largely conformant: it meets the criteria we have tested, and the known gaps are listed below rather than left for you to discover.
This statement was prepared on 12 August 2026 on the basis of our own testing, using keyboard-only navigation, automated auditing and contrast measurement. It has not been assessed by an external body.
What we have done
- Contrast. Measured, not estimated. Body text sits at 15:1 against its background and secondary text at 10:1. The faintest text we use measures 5.1:1, which still clears AA at normal size. The primary call to action is dark ink on brass at 9.1:1, above the 7:1 AAA threshold, and its hover state is lighter still.
- Keyboard. Every control, including the cart panel, the ledger sort controls, the Carry Finder and the withdrawal function, is reachable and operable by keyboard. Focus is always visible as a brass outline. A skip link is the first thing you reach on every page.
- Structure. Pages use one h1 and a nested heading order. Tables are real tables with header cells. Forms use real labels tied to their inputs, not placeholder text standing in for labels.
- Errors. Validation messages are announced with role="alert", tied to the field they describe, and written as sentences rather than codes. A disabled submit button always has a visible explanation of what is missing.
- Images. Photographs that carry information have descriptive alt text. Decorative images have empty alt attributes so screen readers skip them.
- Motion. Animation is limited to short entrance transitions and the workshop video. All of it is suppressed when your system asks for reduced motion, and the video is muted, never autoplays under that setting, and always has a visible pause control.
- Zoom and reflow. The layout reflows to a single column and remains usable at 320 px width and at 200% zoom without horizontal scrolling.
- No traps. No cookie wall, no modal you cannot escape, no time-limited checkout. The consent dialog can be dismissed with a single keyboard-reachable button, and refusing is the same size as accepting.
Known limitations
Honest list of where we are not there yet:
- The ledger table on small screens. Below 1024 px the specification columns collapse into a summary line to avoid horizontal scrolling. The full specification is on each article page, but the side-by-side comparison is not available on a phone. We are working on a comparison view that does not depend on width.
- The workshop video has no captions. It has no speech and no meaningful sound — it is silent by design — so captions would be empty. There is no audio description of the visuals; the same information is in the text beside it.
- Colour as a signal in the ledger. Leather grade is tinted as well as named. The name is always present, so the colour is reinforcement rather than the only carrier of meaning, but the tint distinction is subtle.
- No external audit. Our assessment is self-conducted. We would rather say so than imply certification we do not hold.
